About Us

Let us introduce ourselves. I started camping when I was 11 years old, when I joined the Scout movement in England. So I guess it has been in my blood since then.
After getting married my wife and I went on camping holidays for many years, firstly in the back of a Commer Express delivery van with the mere basics.
These included a single mattress, A parafin primus stove, frying pan, pressure cooker & a pan.
Consumables included bottled water, tinned food, vegetables, eggs & bacon, bread, margarine & biscuits. Basic cutlery. No refrigerator! Very basic clothing.
We slept on a mattress in the back of the van with everything else in boxes.
Our favourite camping place was the Lake Disrict in north west England.
We eventually progressed to our first caravan. The purchase of this was on the basis of zero experience in caravans and no camping assistance from anywhere available.

The first caravan was a 14 Foot Vickers. This was made in northern England and constructed of a heavy wooden frame with thick aluminium sheeting and Oak furniture.
It literally weighed a ton. The towing vehicle was a Vauxhall Victor estate -1500cc with a three speed column change gear lever. A more unsuitable camping rig it would have been very difficult to find!
Our second rig was the one pictured below. A much more suitable outfit consisting of a Wolseley 3 litre and a 14foot Fairholm New Dawn caravan. This caravan had two doors on opposite sides, one of which gave outside access to a toilet compartment. The other unique feature was that the axle was mounted rear of the centre of the caravan which stopped the tendancy to snake. In order to counterbalance the weight the kitchen was installed across the rear of the caravan. Best design we have ever seen, and we have never seen it elsewhere.

Since then we have had a lot more camping experience, in many different caravans and tow vehicles and several different countries such as Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and finally here in Australia.
